The Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl TV started being shot in 1989. The anime was based on the manga Yawara, Hiroko Tokita was the director. Naoki Urasawa began working on it before starting Happy!. The music is written by Hideharu Mori who also wrote music for Maison Ikkoku: Kanketsuhen movie and Ranma 1/2 TV. 124 series were released all in all, each lasting for 26 minutes. Like the manga, the anime is filmed as a comedy.

1996 saw the anime Yawara! Special - Zutto Kimi no Koto ga movie release based on the manga Yawara by Naoki Urasawa released in 1986. Morio Asaka was the director. Morio Asaka who had filmed Chobits OAV was invited director of Yawara! Special - Zutto Kimi no Koto ga. The music is written by Hideharu Mori who also wrote music for Maison Ikkoku: Kanketsuhen movie, Ranma 1/2 TV and Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl TV. The anime combines comedy, drama, romance.
